Do I know you?

Wow! I have come to the realization that I don't know my last school at all! I was only there a year, and only worked 1/2 time at that. But goodness... In a class I'm taking right now, I'm having to make suggestions and relate some details about my school. I drew a blank for most of it. I don't know if the other teachers work as a grade level team. I don't know if there is any collaboration in that school at all? I suspect not much since the principal is going to a collaboration class this summer, and taking some teachers with her.

It makes me sad that I worked there a year and didn't know hardly anything about that school. I hope that I am at my next school longer so I can get to know the inner workings of the school better. And hopefully contribute something to that school.

That can happen in special ed if you are not an included part of the community yourself.........I am finally working in a school with a fantastic special ed team, and meet with them weekly, plus attend regular ed grade level team meetings for the teams that my students are part of. What a difference that has made for me and my understanding of how our school works. I hope for the same for you in your next position.

Love your blog! I'm a Christian Teaching Assistant, also drawn towards working with Special Needs, although still trying to find my first role. You should see my new blog at:

I happened upon your blog and I really like it! I too am a Christian teacher working in a public school.

Collaboration makes a HUGE difference in a school. It's all too easy to simply close the door and "do our thing" alone, but we all learn so much from each other when we share ideas, plans, etc.

God bless you today!
